Welcome to NewMommy.org!!!
My name is Linda and I am a first-time expecting mom.
Am I excited? Yes. Scared? Absolutely! Tired of backaches? Who isn’t!?! And on top of all this, my baby’s estimated arrival date is in 16 days!!!!! (As I write this, the date is April 24th, 2011.)
My husband and I must be out of our minds to start this site two weeks before our baby’s due date. But we figured, if we don’t do it now, we will be too swamped to do it later. So we’ve been working hard on designing and getting this site up and running (my husband’s specialty) and I’ve been working on content development and envisioning of what I want this website/blog/resource to become five and ten years from now.
When I first found out I was pregnant, I honestly and sadly admit, that I was in tears of concern and fear. Negative thoughts ran through my mind: “How are we going to make it?” And the number one thing I was most afraid of: “I am responsible for everything.” Everything I eat, drink, and do will directly affect my baby. This was a huge responsibility that I was afraid to undertake. Would I be able to make the best decisions for my baby and forego my own wants and desires? I didn’t think I could do it.
Fast forward to nine months later…
I’m quite proud of myself!
I’ve made good decisions for my baby and I, and we both are in excellent health! I really scared myself in the beginning, but as my pregnancy progressed and I saw that I was eating healthy, exercising and learning all that I could, my fears were overcome and excitement and happiness filled its place. Being pregnant, I’ve learned so much in a wide array of topics. This journey has taken me from learning about pregnancy and the woes that come along with it including yeast infections and UTIs; to eating healthy and looking at ingredient labels to avoid bad ingredients such as MSG or high fructose corn syrup; to discovering chemicals and toxins in baby products, as well as cosmetics and everyday items that we use; to finding out that plastics leach toxins, thus you should use baby items that are BPA-free; to the result of finding natural and green alternatives including breastfeeding, cloth diapers and safer plastics. *Sigh* That was a lot! Well, I’ve learned a ton, and in response, I would love to share it with you.
NewMommy.org is dedicated to all you new moms who are beginning your journey of motherhood and who are on a quest to making the best decisions for your new baby and entire family. This site is also dedicated to moms with children who are new to things such as breastfeeding, cloth diapers and going green or natural. My hope is that this site will be a wonderful and informative resource that many of you moms can trust and turn to again and again.
As my first pregnancy journey is quickly coming to a close, I am committed to sharing everyday in my blog about how I came to where I am today. Of course, this commitment will only last until my baby’s arrival. But I wanted to give you all a glimpse of how I came about my discoveries before I start sharing about what it’s like being a first-time mom with a newborn baby.
I’m looking forward to this adventure together!!!
Sincerely,
Linda Hawes
